Home School Groups - ROYAL CHRISTIAN EDUCATORS

Purpose and Organization

Royal Christian Educators (RCE) was established in June of 1999. RCE is a Maryland State approved supervisory program and an educational outreach ministry of Rosedale Baptist Church. RCE helps parents with home school resources and helps them fulfill the State of Maryland's legal requirements.

Families in RCE do not give up educational autonomy. Since RCE does not endorse a particular curriculum or plan of study, parents have control over their home school program. Each family takes responsibility for choosing curriculum, purchasing, and implementing the materials used in their home.

Royal Christian Educators (RCE) helps parents to succeed in home schooling by providing basic guidelines to be successful and to meet Maryland State requirements. RCE requires that home school parents follow the State of Maryland's guidelines.

One major requirement for RCE is that parents keep a portfolio. Parents are required to show their portfolio to school representatives at least two times during the school year. RCE requires a log of the student's work throughout the year, as Baltimore county and many state approved supervisory programs do. The log must show "regular and thorough instruction" in the state required subjects of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Health, and Physical Education. RCE adds Bible as a required subject. As a State approved supervisory program, RCE is required to:

  • Have pre-enrollment conferences

  • Review textbooks, lesson plans, educational material, etc.

  • Provide annual portfolio checks

  • Hold periodic conferences
